For the Diamond Jubilee

As part of our Jubilee celebrations we have on temporary display a painting from the collection featuring the Queen when she was Princess Elizabeth. The picture by William Dring shows the Queen receiving the Freedom of the City of London from the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Bracewell Smith in 1947. Bracewell Smith (1904 – 1990) has a personal connection to the area as he was born and bred in Keighley. He made his fortune in property investments and at one time owned the Ritz Hotel in London. The painting can be seen in the Icons gallery on the first floor.
