Museum and Gallery Tour Guides

Bradford District has a varied collection of museums and galleries, housing an assortment of exhibits including an international art collection, machinery that helped shape Bradford, historical artefacts and curiosities to name but a few. Making all of these collections accessible to our visitors is very important to us and that is where we need you.

In this customer facing role you will act as an important contact between our visitors and our collections, enhancing their experience. You will get the chance to work with interesting and varied collections in site specific buildings and develop your knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for meeting and greeting visitors into the building.
  • Guiding visitors around the relevant spaces explaining the history of the building and its collections.
  • Answering any questions that visitors may have.
  • Informing the visitors of gallery rules when appropriate.
  • Notifying members of staff should any problems occur.
  • To be well informed of all facilities, events and exhibitions taking place on site.
  • To work on a fixed rota for a minimum of six months, providing two tours a month.
  • If you are unable to make your session we ask that you swap with a fellow volunteer in order to ensure that it is covered. This is not the responsibility of staff members.

Training

All volunteers will receive induction training prior to the start of their placement. You will be trained for one tour at a time and will also be provided with training in the health and safety aspects of the job. If you do not complete the full training programme you will be unable to deliver the tours.

Person Specification
