Toy Detectives
KS1 History
Children discover the difference between toys old and new by taking part in a fun session playing toy detectives and handling authentic toys from Victorian and modern times.
1 hour Museum Staff led workshop.

Street Games (April to September)
KS1 History
Knowledge and Understanding of events, people and changes in the past
a. Identify differences between ways of life at different times
Historical Enquiry
a. How to find out about the past from a range of sources of information
b. To ask and answer questions about the past
KS2 Historical enquiry
What games did children from the past play and how do they differ from today? Children will discover the answer to these questions while enjoying hop-scotch, kick the can, long rope skipping, and whip the top.
1 hour Education Officer led workshop.

Warp and Weft
KS1 - History Knowledge and understanding of events, people and changes in the past
b. Identify differences between ways of life at different times Historical Enquiry
a. How to find out about the past from a range of sources of information
b. To ask and answer questions about the past KS2- Historical enquiry.
In the Weaving Gallery children will learn about the warp and the weft by playing games, seeing a variety of textile machinery and looking at different textures and fabrics. Can be adapted for KS2 - please contact the Education Officers.
1 hour Museum’s Learning Team led hands-on workshop including textile demonstration.

Washday
KS1 Knowledge and Understanding of events, people and changes in the past
a. Recognise why people did things, why events happened and what happened as a result.
b. Identify differences between ways of life at different times.
Historical Enquiry
a. How to find out about the past from a range of sources of information.
b. To ask and answer questions about the past.
Children will find out what it was like to do the washing in a back-to-back house in the past, using wash boards, possers, dolly blue and the mangle.
Education Officer led workshop. Classes are asked to be split into 3 groups, 30 minutes per group.

At Moorside Board School, the Museum's period classroom, children experience Victorian schooling for themselves, including copywriting with dip-pens and doing sums on slates, singing songs and reciting poems.
