Unfair Trade – Africa, West Yorkshire & Slavery
KS3 & KS4

Unfair trade is a powerful workshop newly created for Bradford Museums. The workshop supports Citizenship, History and English and will engage students in an interactive debate uncovering stories of Africa and the slave trade. Inspired by our museum collections, students will engage directly with museum objects to explore the motives of slave owners and anti-slavery campaigners of 18th and 19th century Bradford. Unfair trade also makes reference to industrial slavery in the mills of West Yorkshire and to some examples of slavery today.

At Bradford Industrial Museum the workshop takes place on the weaving gallery beside the machines which textile workers operated for such long hours. Was industrial slavery in the same league as colonial slavery, or not? £55 for a 45minute workshop (Max 25 pupils)
