Island to Island exhibition at Bradford Industrial Museum

Art in the Park - Sculpture by Halima Cassell 2 April - 6 September 2010, Cartwright Hall. Lister Park once again hosts large scale works. Look out for ceramic seats, bronze towers, a stone flower and a terracotta spiral fountain. Pakistan – born, Blackburn lass Halima Cassell is regarded as one of the country’s leading young ceramic artists.

Eternal Radiance - Marble and bronze sculptures 5 June - 5 September 2010, Cartwright Hall. Eternal Radiance is an exhibition showcasing examples of Bradford’s fine collection of early twentieth century marble busts and bronze sculptures, to celebrate the re-opening of Cartwright Hall Art Gallery.

Sacrament of Marriage - A Union of Ideas, Cultures and the Body & Mind 9 July – 5 September 2010, Cartwright Hall. The exhibition celebrates the theme of marriages and alliances between people, cultures, art forms and the body & mind, using contemporary and historical works of art from the rich Bradford collections.

Toward the Light by Pip Dickens 14 August - 7 November 2010, Cartwright Hall. A collection of recent and new paintings and drawings created while in residency at Cartwright Hall, the exhibition’s subject is the dramatic relationship we have between light and darkness.

Das Ewig-Weigbliche by Nicola Bockelmann 18 September - 12 December 2010, Cartwright Hall. The theme of this exhibition; ‘Porn Chic’ is taken from the realms of current media: tv; fashion; photography– a lifestyle phenomenon. It evolved in the 1990s when the media contributed to the sexualisation of our culture. Boundaries between pornography and culture became blurred and permeable.

Sculpture by Nicola Hicks 11 September - 5 December 2010, Cliffe Castle. Nicola Hicks' visual vocabulary moves between figure and fauna with a mercurial sensibility owing as much to contemporary sculpture as it does to modern myth making.

The White Show 3 September - 28 November 2010, Bradford 1 Gallery. In Europe at least, classicism is one place where the modern relationship to the colour white begins. Through important artworks dating from the early 1960s to the present day, The White Show explores the symbolism and meaning of the colour white.

Girl Guides Centenary 17 July - 19 September 2010, Manor House. A Century of Guiding - The Wharfedale Experience. 2010 sees the celebration of a century of fun, friendship and challenges for young women aged 5 to 25 in the UK. The rich and varied history of guiding in Wharfedale is displayed this summer at the Manor House Museum, Ilkley as part of a nationwide programme of events and activities.

Coming of Age: Celebrating 21 Years of Mela in the UK, 7 August - 7 November 2010, Bradford Industrial Museum. What began in Bradford in September 1988 as a small gathering on a football pitch in the Great Horton area of the city has now grown into a two-day international celebration which attracts around 200,000 visitors.

Island to Island: by Tim Smith 21 August - 31 October 2010, Bradford Industrial Museum. Photographs taken over the last sixty years combined with recorded stories and memories. Explores the relationship between Britain and the Caribbean islands of Dominica and Barbados.

A Solo Show Gail Rosenthrone 24 July - 19 September 2010 Bradford Industrial Museum. An exhibition of eclectic paintings. Gail Rosenthrone holds an impressionistic style using a mix of genres ranging from animals to coastal scenes.

Shattered - Claudia Clare 27 March - 27 September 2010. Cliffe Castle. Clay pots are long lasting; they are a primary source of evidence from archaeological sites. They can be shattered and pieced back together. ’I was shattered, but now I’m slowly piecing myself back together again’ is a statement used by many of the women who worked with artist Claudia Clare.
