Exhibitions On Tour

Infinite Terms of Reference

Infinite Terms of Reference draws on a rich and vibrant collection of contemporary paintings and prints which was developed over a long working relationship between Bradford Museum, Galleries and Heritage and artists and arts organisations in Pakistan.

The exhibition demonstrates the diverse range of themes and concerns both historic and contemporary explored by Pakistani artists. Inspiration is also drawn from traditional art forms such as miniature painting, Buddhist and Hindu sculpture and Mughal architecture.

Artists represented include Anwar Jalaluddin Shemza an active member of the Lahore Arts Council, a multidisciplinary group of artists in post independent Pakistan. Salima Hashmi’s subtle works on paper of humanitarian concerns contrast with the colourful palette of Lubna Agha's oil on canvas works. 'Exodus Lahore' by Sylvat Aziz portrays the horrors associated with the partition of Lahore in post independent India whilst Sabina Gillani's etchings depict mystical landscapes which are a quest for inner truth.
