Education

Welcome to Bradford Museums & Galleries Learning Programme 2009/10

We provide a range of educational opportunities and cultural experiences to support your curriculum needs. Our workshops, offered at a range of costs, cater for fully supported workshops, introductory sessions or self-service visits.

Funding from Renaissance Yorkshire enables us to offer you a diverse learning programme delivered by professionals in a creative and meaningful way. Students continue to benefit from high quality learning experiences across our seven sites – we know this from the evaluation we receive – and because of the rich resources which are the museum and gallery collections, we can offer solutions to your creative curriculum needs, from arts and sciences to drama and citizenship.

Below you will find links to each site's education page which list our workshops and relevant Key Stage, with associated costs, and contact details for booking.
Each session has Risk Assessment Guidelines but we recommend a pre-visit to discuss your needs. Pre-visits are free but do need booking with the Learning team in advance. Inset sessions can be booked for staff teams considering a creative curriculum approach. At point of booking by telephone you will be sent an Education Pack with all the literature you need. Additional learning resources, linked to our collections, can be found on www.mylearning.org.

Our main areas of work are:

  • Schools Programme. This programme is developed in collaboration with partners such as Extended Schools, City Learning Centres, Schools Linking Network, Heads of Secondary Art and Design, Education Bradford, Bradford College, NESTA, Renaissance Yorkshire and MLA. Information and charges can be found on the individual site pages (links at bottom of page). Resources linked to our collections can be found on www.mylearning.org
  • Family Programme. Free imaginative weekend and school holiday activities for children and their carers. All children must be accompanied by and adult. Search for details by site.
  • Support for artists, students, teacher CPD and INSET. We offer sessions in our buildings with resident artists, placement opportunities and partnership working.

  • Celebrations of success in the arts, creativity and culture. Annual exhibitions such as Good Start at Cliffe Castle and the Young Open at Cartwright Hall support the work of young artists of Bradford District.
  • Bradford Young Ambassadors. The Bradford Young Ambassadors group are young people aged 16 to 25, who meet regularly at Bradford Museums and Galleries to share projects and discuss views about art, interpretation and creativity. They support and are consulted on exhibition and programme developments. For more information contact Sofia Maskin 01274 431216.
