Connect at Cartwright Hall
On 16 October 2008 Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, Bradford, will officially re-open its upper galleries with Connect, a new permanent exhibition in a transformed and re-visioned space.
Connect makes connections between works of art from different cultures and times. This transcultural concept combines over two hundred Eastern and Western works of art displayed according to the universal themes of People, Place and Imagination.
The rich and diverse collection includes paintings, prints, drawings, textiles, sculpture, stained glass and ceramics and features key works by artists such as David Hockey, L.S Lowry, Joshua Reynolds, Andy Warhol, Sylvat Aziz, Bridget Riley and Jamini Roy. The Connect acquisition programme has added fifty new works by acclaimed artists such as Paula Rego, Damien Hirst, Yinka Shonibare, Chris Ofili and Arpana Caur.
Connect is brought to life through unique interactive touch screens exploring thematic connections and spotlighting key works. There are also five bespoke ‘activity stations’ providing opportunities for hands on play and a deeper understanding of the exhibition.
