Cartwright Hall can be found in stunning Lister Park, only a mile from Bradford City Centre.
Cartwright Hall (now part of Bradford District Museums and Galleries) has been collecting for over one hundred years and its collection includes works by master printmakers such as Francisco Goya, William Blake and Walter Sickert and works by modern masters –such as Pop Artists Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Richard Hamilton, LS Lowry, Anish Kapoor and Supta Biswas.
Bradford was one of the first UK local authority museum services to start collecting works by South Asian and Black artists and Cartwright Hall showcases this amazing collection.

Cartwright Hall was built on the former site of Manningham Hall and opened as a gallery in 1904. The hall housed a display of loaned artworks before acquiring its own collection of Victorian and Edwardian works using funds from the 1904 Bradford Great Exhibition.
From September 2025 until February 2026, Cartwright Hall is proud to host the Turner Prize 2025, one of the world’s leading awards for contemporary art. This internationally significant exhibition brings together work by the four shortlisted artists, offering audiences in Bradford the chance to experience some of the most exciting and thought-provoking art being made today. (Please note the Hockney Gallery will not be on public display during the Turner Prize.)

Lister Park features a boating lake, adventure playground and features the Mughal Gardens. The park recently won another Green Flag award, reflecting its status as one of the best maintained parks in the country.

Cartwright Hall Art Gallery is in the middle of Lister Park, one and a half miles from the City Centre on the A650 Manningham Lane. There is limited parking in Lister Park, accessible from North Park Road (off Oak Lane). Lister Park is served by many city centre bus services including 23, 25, 26, 49, 51, 52, 53, 54, 622, 647, 662, w5. Cartwright Hall is about ten minutes’ uphill walk from Frizinghall railway station.

David Hockney was born in Bradford in 1937. In time to celebrate his 80th birthday in 2017 we have created a new permanent display of works by the internationally renowned artist at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery.
