Bradford’s industrial past paints a picture of grimy buildings and smoking chimneys. That’s less than half the story, over sixty per cent of the District is countryside. The Victorians made Shipley Glen famous as an attraction a retreat on the edge of the city, half a century later in the 1950s, pioneers led the way in promoting Baildon Moor as the gateway to Bradford’s countryside.
In this 20 minute play at Bracken, a 1950’s school mistress from the reflects on those early days of archaeology, geology and botany that took children and adults out of the city smog, to learn about the countryside.
